A high quality primer will help the paint to adhere better. You will also want to use paint formulated to handle cold temperatures. This paint is often referred to as “cold set” paint. There are curing agents that help them set harder so they can handle the dip in temperature.
– Hot Climate: The sun can be extremely damaging to paint when you don’t use the right type of paint on your home. If you live in an area that has a hot climate, you will want to choose paint that is UV resistant. This paint has been proven to only fade about 2% throughout the year and will give you the most vibrant paint for the longest.
– High & Low Temps: If you are lucky enough to live in an area that gets both cold and hot weather, it can really take its toll on your exterior paint. The best chance you have against chipping and peeling paint is to use 100% acrylic paint on your home. This type of paint is durable and adheres well in these environments.
– Rainy Area: If it rains often when you live, mold and mildew are a big concern. Mold and mildew can cause serious damage to your home. You will need to choose paint that is mildew-resistant to make sure you don’t run into this problem.
